Artist Song Title Album
11. Mirrorwriting
More R&B meets smooth electronic grooves. I definitely see a trend. Woon is a British singer/producer that has become a sensation in the UK with this single, leading up to his new album Mirrorwriting (just released in Europe).
12. Belong
NYC-based The Pains of Being Pure at Heart is back with their sophomore album, this time with a wall of sound that will bring instant comparisons to The Smashing Pumpkins
13. Meyrin Fields – EP
This super duo of James Mercer and Danger Mouse surprised when they followed up their debut album with a full supporting tour. The surprise continues with a follow-on EP one year later.
14. Spring Fools – EP
More beautiful music from NY-based Matt Pond PA… This track may be one of their best ever, and it features acompanying vocals from Ariel Abshire.
15. Human Hearts
This foursome from Milwaukie gives us melodic indie rock on their fourth studio LP.
16. The Rookie – EP
It’s hard to be any more transparent about their musical influences by naming their band “The New Division”. And they definitely live up to the New Order/Joy Division/Depeche Mode vibe on this huge track.
17. Whokill
It’s totally fair to call this singer weird or electic. New England’s Merrill Garbus has a unique performance style where she loops her own vocals and drum sequences over themselves live on stage. Pretty wild and different.
18. Helplessness Blues
Robin Pecknold and his crew from Seattle are about to release their long-awaited sophomore LP. Here’s the sneak peek single to whet your appetite.
19. The Golden Record
I spend a lot of sifting through new releases sampling different tracks, hoping to find a gem to add to a playlist. Occasionally, I’m rewarded by a group like Little Scream, from Montreal. Check out this joyous song featuring Laurel Sprengelmeyer’s vocals over a track full of guitars, piano, flute, and hand claps.

20. The Golden Record
I’ll close the list out with an absolutely beautiful acoustic track showcasing Sprengelmeyer’s gorgeous vocals and contemplative lyrics. So pretty.
