It’s an exciting time in the music space. Google jumping in to offer full song preview on its search pages (powered by Lala & iLike) is a welcome development and a sign, I think, that labels are eager to see multiple players in the space besides iTunes. More new music is being released than ever before, whether as full albums, LPs, or online singles. Some of those releases get a lot of marketing push, but most of it does not. The tracks in KNAK 36 probably fall into the latter category, so I hope this post will introduce a few more people to some new music and up and coming artists that deserve to be heard.
The playlist is available on Lala below (after the jump) as well as in an iTunes iMix.
I’m always looking for recommendations and comments.

The list is below….
| Artist | Song Title | Album | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. | Minus The Bear | Into the Mirror | Into the MIrror |
| Seattle-based Minus The Bear gives us a sneak peak of their new full-length expected in early 2010. And if this single is any indication, we’ll see a more polished and accessible MTB than their earlier releases. | |||
| 2. | Tegan & Sara | Alligator | Sainthood |
| a track from the Canadian female duo’s latest LP. | |||
| 3. | Atlas Sound | Walkabout | Logos |
| Georgia-based Atlas Sound is the solo project for Deerhunter’s lead singer Bradford Cox. This airy track features Noah Lennox of Animal Collective whose voice is a great pairing for Cox’s vocals. | |||
| 4. | Basement Jaxx | Saga (feat Santigold) | Scars |
| The London-based electronic duo that brought us the driving single “Raindrops” as a sneak peak now has their full LP out, and it’s full of collaborations. Here’s one featuring the distinctive stylings of Santigold | |||
| 5. | Basement Jaxx | My Turn (feat Lightspeed Champion) | Scars |
| Another cool track, this one featuring Devonte Hynes (aka Lightspeed Champion). | |||
| 6. | Choir of Young Believers | Action/Reaction | This Is For the White In Your Eyes |
| This Denmark band gives us tribal rhythms and earnest vocals in a dreamy but upbeat track. | |||
| 7. | Washed Out | Feel It All Around | Life Of Leisure |
| A standout track from the debut LP from Georgia-based Ernest Greene. I love the base-driven dream pop. For those Canon 5D Mark II videofiles out there, some adventurers created an underwater video featuring this track. | |||
| 8. | Port O’Brien | Sour Milk/Salt Water | Threadbare |
| The latest album from the bay area’s Port O’Brien is one of my favorites of the year. | |||
| 9. | Papercuts | White Are The Waves | White Are the Waves -Single |
| A beautiful soulful single from San Francisco-based Papercuts. | |||
| 10. | Maps | Without You | Turning The Mind |
| Shoegaze meets electronica in this pretty track from UK-based Maps in their 2nd full length album. | |||
| 11. | Maps | Everything Is Shattering | Turning The Mind |
| Standout track from their latest album. | |||
| 12. | Islands | Switched On | Vapours |
| This is the lead track from Montreal-based Island’s latest full-length release, and it showcases the same quirky indie-pop we’ve grown to expect. | |||
| 13. | The Big Pink | Dominos | Vapours |
| The lyrics are pretty depressing, but I dig the sound of this track from this UK-based duo’s debult LP. | |||
| 14. | Sea Wolf | Turn the Dirt Over | White Water, White Bloom |
| Haunting lyrics on this track from LA-based Sea Wolf’s sophomore album. | |||
| 15. | The Middle East | Blood | The Recordings of The Middle East |
| A stunningly beautiful track from the debut EP from this new group out of Townsville, Australia. Check out the accompanying paper stop-motion video. | |||
| 16. | Volcano Choir | Still | Unmap |
| I’ll close out with this hazy 7 minute track from the Wisconsin-based indie collective featuring low-key auto-tuned vocals contrasted over lo-fi instrumentation. | |||
