KNAK 16

November playlist time!    Thanks to the folks who’ve sent me notes, suggestions, and comments.  I really appreciate it (it lets me know that people are checking out the playlists).

You can download the iTunes iMix or the Yahoo! Music playlist.

-Dave

Peter, Bjorn, and John Young Folks
Let’s start this list with a whistling tune that will get stuck in your head. This Swedish band puts out an upbeat indie pop track.
–> Update: for some reason, this song has disappeared off itunes (even though I found it there about a week ago… hopefully it will come back. In the meantime, it’s available on Yahoo!)

Cold War Kids Tell Me in the Morning
Lead singer from this southern Californian group brings a distinctive soaring and high-pitched dynamic voice to this track

Damien Jurado Denton, TX
Damien Jurado keeps making great folk rock music. Here’s a pretty strong from his latest album And Now That I’m In Your Shadow

The Blow Parentheses
More indie pop from the Pacific Northwest. Love song set in the aisles of a supermarket.

Oxford Collapse Molasses
Energetic song from an indie rock outfit out of Brooklyn. This one even has a recorder track in the middle laid over a great guitar chorus.

Annuals The Bull and the Goat
Impressive debut album Be He Me from this young North Carolina band

Vib Gyor Fallen (on iTunes only)
This ambitious UK band puts out soaring atmospheric rock that will fill your room (or at least your headphones)

Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton Winning
Here’s a chance to hear Emily Haines of Metric in a sparse piano arrangement that showcases her beautiful voice

Scissor Sisters I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’
Unabashed disco track…. what else would you expect from this feel-good NYC group?

The Changes On a String
I ended last month’s playlist with a song from this Chicago group. Here’s another wonderful upbeat track to check out

Yo La Tengo Bean Bag Chair
Another track from the latest album released by this time-tested New Jersey indie rock band.

Joseph Arthur Too Much to Hide
Wow. Brooding but rich sound from this Ohio singer. Really beautiful… check it out.

Honeycut Shadows
Local San Francisco trio debuts with a bang. Mix a little soul and funk into indie rock and you get Honeycut.

Teddybears Yours to Keep
Even though “Different Sounds” is now way overplayed in an Intel TV commercial, I still love it. Here’s a slightly different sound from them in a track featuring Neneh Cherry.

Jeremy Enigk Cannons
A strong solo effort from this artist formerly of Seattle-based Sunny Day Real Estate. Getting a lot of air play on KEXP.org’s morning rotation

The Pernice Brothers PCH One
More pleasing indie pop from this New England group.

Lily Allen Smile
I’m ending this list this month with an outright pop song whose lyrics belie the upbeat melody.

Enjoy!
