Congratulations to Dave Niehaus for winning the Ford C. Frick award and being inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame today. Dave Niehaus has been the voice of the Seattle Mariners for their entire 31 years of existence and is probably the most beloved in Seattle of everybody associated with the organization. I grew up listening to him on the radio, and he always brought the action to life and made me excited for the next opportunity to go see a game.
I have many memories, whether listening to his calls on the radio or being in the Kingdome watching him wave to the crowd in jubilant celebration when the Mariners finally won their first division title. But I always still get chills when I hear a replay of “The Double” in the magical 1995 post-season.
Thank you Dave for an amazing 31 years and congratulations for making it into Cooperstown.
