KNAK 17

My last regular playlist of the year! It’s time to start thinking about Best of 2006. It’s tougher to put a list together in December with fewer new releases except for the dreaded “X sings your Christmas favorites” compilations. But I was able to find a few gems this time, so I hope you enjoy it.

You can download the iTunes iMix or the Yahoo! Music playlist (10 of 13 available on Yahoo! this time).

The Kooks Naive
A brand new band out of the UK starts out KNAK 17. Here’s an upbeat rock track from their promising debut album Inside In/Inside Out.

The Shins Phantom Limb (only on iTunes)
The Shins are back! Their new album Wincing the Night Away is slated for the end of January, but they’ve released this great single. Definitely check it out.

Maritime Tearing Up the OxygenX
Here’s a wonderful gem that was released earlier this year from an indie pop band out of Wisconsin.

Shiny Toy Guns Le Disko
Let’s shake it up with a driving electronic track from this LA synth/rock/pop outfit. Definitely an up and coming band… they just played on Letterman

The Trucks Shattered (only on iTunes)
Another band out of Bellingham! This time it’s an all-female group mixing electronic pop and driving indie rock.

The Raconteurs Level
Here’s another strong track from Jack White’s new band. It’s definitely worth checking out Broken Boy Soldiers if you haven’t yet.

Babyshambles The Blinding
Here’s the lead track from an EP Babyshambles released a few days ago. This band is led by Pete Doherty who rather famously was kicked out of the Libertines for his prolific drug use.

Muse Starlight
The tracks from Black Holes and Revelations definitely keep to theme. Here’s my favorite track from that album.

TV On the Radio Wolf Like Me
This acclaimed Indie Rock band from Brooklyn has put out a strong effort in its sophomore LP. It’s definitely worth checking out this one.

Man Plus Sister Says I’ll Love Again (only on iTunes)
Another northwest band I heard on KEXP. If I had to describe their sounds, I’d call it low-fi noisy melodic pop.

Lily Allen Absolutely Nothing
Another track showcasing Lily Allen’s ability to pair downbeat lyrics on a catchy upbeat pop song.

Gym Class Heroes The Queen and I
If you’re into Outkast, Gnarls Barkley, etc., I think you’ll like this one. Mix a little r&b funk rock into your life.

Sparkelehorse Shade and Honey
“Don’t Take My Sunshine Away” is one of my favorite tracks of the year and started off KNAK 15. I’ll close out KNAK 17 with another beautiful track from Dreamt for Light Years In the Belly of a Mountain.
Enjoy!
