I just returned from India, and I’m a bit late with my playlist this month. This time, it’s another mix of new and the tried and true (mostly new). I added a few wild cards in there this time, so hopefully you’ll like the variety. I’ve posted both an iTunes iMix (available songs marked with an “i”) as well as a Yahoo! Music playlist (marked with a “y”).
As always, keep sending me suggestions and let me know what you think.

| Hot Chip |
| And I Was a Boy from School (y, i) |
|
| The first track mixes great soothing vocals over an electronic up-tempo backdrop from this London band. Check out their video if you get a chance. |
| Lodger |
|
| Lodger hails from Finland, and I found out about this band when I ran across their crazy flash videos on the ‘net. |
| Asobi Seksu |
|
| Lead singer Yuki’s voice just peaks above the guitar and reverb in this indie pop track from the group’s sophomore album (“Citrus”). |
| Psapp |
|
| This track reminds me of some of the quirkier Frou Frou tracks…. a distinctive female voice over syncopated electronica. |
| Jon Auer |
Bottom of the Bottle (i) |
| Another track sung with feeling by the former Posies lead singer. |
| Electric President |
| Wearing Influences On Our Sleeveless T-shirts(i) |
|
| Florida duo presents a low key electronic pop track that shift gears in the middle. Give it a listen. |
| The Black Angels |
| Boodhounds On My Trail (y,i) |
|
| Lots of Buzz from this guitar-driven rock band after its performance as native sons of Austin during SXSW this past spring. |
| Alexi Murdoch |
|
| Let’s keep the guitars, but in a completely different way. This Scottish singer probably is best described as alt-folk, and it somehow reminds me of one of the songs from O Brother Where Art Thou (but with an indie-rock twist). |
| Death Cab for Cutie |
| Your Heart Is An Empty Room (y,i) |
|
| Seattle’s Death Cab has clearly reached the mainstream now, but they’ve gotten there without changing their successful formula. Here’s another track from their major label album Plans. |
| Sonic Youth |
|
| Sonic Youth is still putting out new music after 25 years. Incinerate is a stripped-down track that is getting a lot of play. |
| South |
|
| Another track from this London trio that is a mix of pop/rock/electronica/folk… this one reminds me a bit of the Doves and the Editors. |
| Danielson |
| Did I Step On Your Trumpet(y,i) |
|
| I sometimes agree with Pitchfork, and sometimes not. But when they gave a glowing review for Danielson I decided to check out his latest album. It’s a little “out there”, but if you’re feeling adventurous, give it a try. |
| Cut Chemist |
|
| Branching out a bit for this one…. Cut Chemist is a DJ artist (more famous as a member of Ozomatli and Jurassic 5), and this track has a definite trip-hop groove. |
| Sleater-Kinney |
|
| I’ve included a Sleater-Kinney song in honor of one of the best rock bands from the Pacific Northwest. This female trio from Portland has decided to call it quits after their current tour ends this summer. |
| Halou |
|
| Closing the list this time with a gorgeous and richly layered ambient track from Halou, a trio that originated out of San Francisco and Santa Cruz. |
