KNAK 10

I can’t believe it’s already May. The good news is that it means we’re definitely in summer territory here in the Bay Area (good bye Rain).   It also means it’s time for my new play list.  Let me know if you check out the songs, and I’m always looking for pointers to new music. As always, you can download the yahoo music engine playlist (songs marked with a “y”) or the iTunes iMix (marked with an “i”).   Sadly the Yahoo coverage is pretty pitiful this month (only 6 songs out of 16). As a consolation, Pinback’s Summer In Abaddon is finally on Yahoo, so if you don’t already have the album, definitely check it out.

Don’t Know Why (You Stay) The Essex Green (i): Let’s start off with a guitar-driven up-beat song from this Brooklyn indie pop group.
Steady, As She GoesThe Raconteurs (i): So this is what you get when you put Jack White into a full-blown band…. Not a bad debut.
Rough GemIslands (i): Ok, maybe this song’s indie-pop hook is almost too catchy… it sticks in your head, that’s for sure, and maybe that’s ok.
Release Me On the FloorFigurines (i): A pretty song showcasing some warbling vocals by the lead singer of this Danish band.
InsistorTapes ‘n Tapes (i) : I can’t say I understand the lyrics to this one, but check out this whisper-to-frenzy song from this Minneapolis band
Leaves Do FallThe Rosebuds (i): Another great track from this North Carolina husband/wife group.
Here We Are – Family In the Hallways- The Appleseed Cast (y,i):  Just missed KNAK 9 but I’ve been playing this “noisy” track from this Kansas band for a while and it’s grown on me.
Cemetary RowThe Minus 5 (y,i) : “Cemetary Row is not such a bad place… don’t you want to go?”
There’s Been an AccidentThe Twilight Singers (i): A new track off of the just released album from this Greg Dulli project (formerly of Afghan Whigs).
World Wide SuicidePearl Jam (y,i): If you haven’t heard the driving rock track from the new Pearl Jam album yet, you should definitely check this out…. Pearl Jam is back.
The First SongBand of Horses (y,i) : The first track on the Seattle sub-pop band’s debut album. Another beautiful song.
Turn the Radio OffLove Is All (i): Swedish girl-rock … some of the songs on this album are just weird, but this one works for me.
Unlike Me- Kate Havnevik (i): Beautiful voice… if you like Imogen Heap, I think you’ll definitely enjoy this track.
For the Actor- Mates of State (y,i) : Another upbeat track from this indie pop duo.
Bullets
Editors(y,i) : The 3rd track I’ve included from this Birmingham UK band. Definitely check out this band if you haven’t yet.
CrazyGnarls Barkley(i) : Already a huge sensation in Europe and heroes of the Internet for releasing this single on the web only. The whole album is available now, but if you haven’t downloaded this track yet, you definitely should. This is the latest project from Danger Mouse (of Gorillaz fame)
