KNAK 9

Time for some new tunes I’ve put into rotation.   Definitely let me know what you think.  As always, you can download the yahoo music engine playlist (songs marked with a “y” – good coverage this time!) or the iTunes iMix (marked with an “i”).   And if you’re a beta tester on lala.com, look me up.

Unsatisfied - Nine Black Alps(y,i) : This Manchester UK band is definitely hot right now and is in the middle of its SXSW to Coachella tour.
The FuneralBand of Horses (y,i) : Wow.  Another Seattle Sub-pop band, and  a pretty remarkable debut.   There’s a great review of them at pitchfork.  Thanks to Mike for pointing me their way.
Star WitnessNeko Case (y,i) :  This twinge of alt-country is as close as I’ll get to country.  Neko Case has a fantastic voice.
Think LongMates of State (y,i) : Trivia alert: before becoming an SF indie pop band, this duo had careers in teaching and cancer research.
A.M. Slow Golden HitHotel Lights (y,i) : Pretty song by a North Carolina band led by a former member of Ben Folds Five.
Painter in Your PocketDestroyer (y,i) : Another fantastic  song from this Dan Bejar project… I’ve put this one on heavy rotation.
BloodEditors(y,i) : I’ve been waiting for the music services to release the Editors’ album ever since the track Munich came out from this Birmingham UK band.
Lights - I Love you But I’ve Chosen Darkness(y,i) : OK, this is a strange one.  Sounds like a serious UK band, but comes from Texas.  And while the band name is  crazily depressing, I love the band logo (see the middle album on the cover art mosaic above).
The Police and the Private- Metric (y,i) :  I really like Emily Haines’ voice and decided to pick another track from this Toronto indie band’s album
I’ll Believe in AnythingWolf Parade (y,i) : Some have called this song the album centerpiece of Apologies to the Queen Mary.  It’s definitely one of the most distinctive, where their trademark warbly vocals play center stage.
Twin CinemaThe New Pornographers (y,i) : Power-pop title song from NP’s latest album  to inject a little fun into this list.
BarracudaPeople In Planes (i) : This Welsh rock band is starting to get some airplay.  This track opens up their debut full-length album
A Place in DisplacementSouth (i) : Closing the list out with a great song by this UK electronic “space rock” band.
