I’m a little late with my playlist… but hopefully you’ll enjoy it. Let me know what you think! As always, you can download the yahoo music engine playlist (songs marked with a “y”… only half the songs are available this time) or the iTunes iMix (marked with an “i”).
Last Dance - The Alps(i) : Let’s start it off with a catchy single just released from a UK (Greenwich) indie band that hasn’t even published their first album yet. Promising.
Just One Breath – Devics (y,i) : A beautiful haunting & emotional track from this LA group’s new album.
Watercolours Into the Ocean – Destroyer (i) : I heard this track on KEXP from a band called Destroyer and it lingered with me days later. Turns out it’s fronted by Dan Bejar (from New Pornographers).
The Announcement – Gus Franklin (i) : Gus Franklin is trying a solo project away from Architecture in Helsinki…. pretty great debut
Mushaboom – Feist (y,i) : I heard the recent remix of this indie-pop song from The Postal Service, so I dug up the original which I like better.
On & On – Film School (y,i) : This track from this San Francisco band has a cure/echo & the bunnymen sound.
In My Arms – Mylo (i) : A synth-pop mashup complete with a “Bette Davis Eyes” sample
The Night Sun Over San Juan – Lilys (i) : A wistful song from this low-key Philly band
When the Sun Goes Down – Arctic Monkeys (y,i) : Yes, Hype machine has reached new levels for this brit-rock group. But there are some good tracks on this album.
Future Women – The M’s (i) : Folksy rock track from this Chicago band’s 2nd album
The Midnight Year – Hudson Bell (y,i) : Two songs in one from this SF trio. An upbeat track with lush guitars transitions to a slow-paced but beautiful instrumental
Crooked Teeth – Death Cab For Cutie (y,i) : The 4th song from Plans I’ve put into a KNAK list
Listen Up! – The Gossip (y,i) : This Olympia, WA band (originally from Arkansas) has a stated goal of just wanting to get everybody in a club to get up and dance.
The Greatest – Cat Power (y,i) : This atmospheric track feature’s the lead singer’s spare voice layered with piano and strings.
Gold Lion – Yeah Yeah Yeahs (y,i) : Nothing like Maps…. This new rock single features the lead singer hitting a few siouxie-like notes.
